Hillary Wasson graduated from Illinois State University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Social Work degree with a minor in Spanish.  She then continued her education by receiving a Master of Social Work degree in 2007 with a specialization in Child and Family Practices from Illinois State University.  Hillary is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).

Hillary has experience working with individuals in a crisis state, specifically children and adolescents with suicidal thoughts and/or behavior.  She has worked with this population in many settings, ranging from inpatient hospitalization to continued therapy in an community based or outpatient setting.  Her ability to provide guidance, education, comfort, and validation through these difficult times has helped many feel empowered to seek positive change in their own lives.
Hillary has also developed a passion for helping those who may not be in such a crisis state, but who are drawn to therapy for their own personal growth.  Through her individualized assessment and treatment planning, she feels comfortable with any degree of severity.

Hillary's expertise also includes treating Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), self injury in adolescents/adults, and helping individuals process traumatic life events.  She is a current Associate Member of the Sand Play Therapists of America and she is working towards achieving Sand Play Practitioner Status.  Through the use of miniature figurines and a free, protected space (the sandbox), Hillary can address trauma and inner conflict through this non-verbal therapy technique.   Many children and adolescents have seen dramatic change through this process - and adults, too!

Hillary's fun and active personality combined with her intense passion for helping others creates an comfortable environment for those who are ready to engage in the therapeutic process.  She feels honored to be a part of people's lives in such a personal way, and she greatly values her relationships with her clients.  Hillary uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and a Solution Focused approach while simultaneously empowering individuals to lead the peaceful, balanced, and fun life they strive for and deserve.  In her spare time, Hillary enjoys running, spending time with her husband and two children, scrapbooking, and watching her favorite television shows such as Glee, Law and Order: SVU, Parks & Recreation, and the Walking Dead.
